Aurora wants to be open and responsive to residents in communities near our operations. That is why we have put community consultation at the centre of our exploration and development plans.
Since 2003, when Aurora first began exploration programs in Labrador, we have been holding public information meetings to inform communities of our activities, discuss potential opportunities for residents and listen to their comments and ideas.
As part of this ongoing commitment to consultation with residents of Labrador, we have been holding a series of topic-focused information sessions in Nunatsiavut, central Labrador and St. John's in 2008 and 2009. The first of these, 'mining and the future' was held in October and November 2008. We next held open houses in February 2009 called, 'opportunities for the future', where we discussed future employment and training opportunities with community members. Sessions on our ongoing tailings management options study called, 'designing for acceptance', were held in May 2009.
In support of our community consultation efforts, we have also created the Michelin Project Community Panel, a forum for Aurora and community representatives to meet on a regular basis to discuss all aspects of the Michelin Project, hear community ideas and identify areas of interest.
During the formal regulatory process for the Michelin Project, Aurora would continue to solicit input from community members and governments on our development plans. Public meetings, open houses and one-on-one meetings would be held. We would also issue updates through newsletters, videos, presentations, and site tours.
And, of course, we welcome the opportunity to speak with people individually, in person, at any of our offices.
